Following our obsession with sweatshirts for day wear we have also come up with a way to wear them for going out on the town to windy rooftop bars: a homemade and customized sweatshirt, embellished with all sorts of studs, spikes and crystals. The result is a personalized couture sweatshirt that cost 25GBP to buy from Stradivarius and 10 quid to revamp.
Phillip Lim would have been extremely proud of us as this is who we got our inspiration from.
We chopped off the arm cuffs , rolled them up and cut the length of the sweatshirt to wear it cropped or just long enough to be tucked under a high waist skirt. The studding took about 16 hours to finish but made evenings at home something to look forward to.
We teamed our homemade couture top with a waffle knit cream petal skirt from Zara, THE new skirt shape to wear for 2014 , strappy black sandals and a gold chain black mini bag from Saint Laurent.
The finishing touch to this sporty yet rock-chic look is a Swarovski crystal ear cuff by Ryan Storer, Aussie jewel wry designer favoured by Beyoncé and Rihanna.
Nothing feels better than wearing your own brand of couture!
The fashion world has been having a love affair with all things comfy , from track pants to sweatshirts. Givenchy slapped on a Bambi design on this winter’s sweatshirt and Kenzo made a huge comeback after years of hibernation with their tiger print motif.
From our end we’ve been having a fling with varsity sweatshirts the kind that you wear at your university’s sorority and that we grew up with as teenagers.
We didn’t go for luxe or expensive , but plain and accessible Topshop and Zara. We found that the varsity sweatshirt works just as well with a silk skirt by DVF and lace up ballerinas by hot shoe label Aquazzura , as much as it lends a cool Americana twist to a denim shirt and skort (which is a cross between shorts and a skirt to keep your modesty in check).
The common point between these 2 outfits? Cool and practical satchels in shades of indigo blue (PS1 by Proenza Schouler) or neon pink ( Marc by Marc Jacobs) which is making a huge comeback this spring.

When you are crazy busy preparing for a corporate or cocktail event like the Product of the Year awards with literally 15 minutes to get dressed and do your make up and be camera ready, there is no other way to pull this through than to opt for a statement dress and shoes.
We literally pulled this mission impossible by getting dressed under 1 minute in a printed and sequined Peter Pilotto dress and holographic shoes that look perfect when walking up stage. No need for any jewelry or accessories there!

When a Sports occasion comes along like the Dubai Tennis Open and more specifically a final game with Venus Williams coming out a champ, you want to look sporty enough without giving the impression that you came out of a yoga class.
We were inspired by Tennis stripes in the form of a cotton jumper from Gap striped jumper in shades of grey, white and navy, bodycon leather pants by Helmut Lang, the kind that won’t stretch and sag at the bottom and at the knees, and an equally coveted leather blouson in contrasting cream by All Saints (shop similar here).
We decided to inject a pop of colour with all-time classic Converse trainers and a cross-body bag in pillar box red by Rebecca Minkoff.
The past few weeks in Dubai have been a breath of fresh cold air.
The words happy and chilly do not begin to describe how we have been feeling , relishing every pair of boots, leather pants and jacket we own.
So we’ve decided to wear the easy yet elegant and statement-making leather dress, a beautifully cut number by Helmut Lang Leather Dress, with a relaxed fit that hides any bulges or post-baby tummies.
Teamed with knee-high boots from Anna Dello Russo for H&M , we couldn’t resist the urge to match the gold zipper with Saint Laurent Chyc mini shoulder bag a cheaper alternative to Givenchy’s shark tooth in the form of a pendant from Kenneth Jay Lane gold plated necklace and a series of smooth and sleek gold tone rings which we bought for 5 pounds from Bershka.
Dubai loves winter with a dash of gold.

For the last Fashion Forward event , we teamed two key trends : cobalt blue in the form of our beloved PS1 satchel, leather shorts and fashion’s new love affair the strappy black sandal. While we still haven’t gotten round purchasing the latest Gianvito Rossi cage sandal or Aquazzura’s impossibly strappy and towering amazon sandals, we were just quite happy to recycle a 4 year old pair of Camilla Skovgaards which attracted the eyes of plenty of photographers.
Black blazer from Massimo Dutti, skull print tank and black leather shorts from The Kooples.
We also snapped up some effortlessly cool outfits and some of the wackiest sightings we have seen in a long time: a top knot, PVC trousers and impossible to walk in outrageous shoes.

On a recent night-in with some friends, I wanted a comfortable, casual yet funky outfit, I had a clear inspiration in mind: Jean-Paul Gaultier meets Grunge and Alexander McQueen. So I teamed up these sequined shorts by Clover Canyon with a top from the Kooples that combined Breton stripes and a flower skull motif , flat gladiator silver sandals and a customized multi-chain necklace from Zara. I basically lifted the matte metal with dashes of shiny crystals bought from Satwa Market in Dubai.
Here are some quick selfies as I didn’t have any time to pose for proper pics. will make sure to post some clearer pictures of the necklace in another post.

We found a great way to wear white Stilettos by Sophia Webster, the Parisian Chic way: teamed with cool leather shorts by The Kooples and a denim shirt from Gap tucked in nonchalantly and a sleek black leather tote. The whole outfit just makes the white stilettos pop, and what better occasion than to sport this look for the recent launch of the Chloe Baylee bag in Dubai Mall, during the recent Vogue Italia Fashion Experience Night?
We were styled by the Chloe team and given tips for wearing the much-coveted Chloe Baylee bag in different ways. Seen on celebrities such as Rihanna and Rita Ora, the bag comes in an array of colourways and skins and can be worn in the crook of the arm ladylike or boyish slung on the shoulder. The best thing we love about the Baylee is that it’s cool , understated and extremely light to carry around.

With Fashion Forward Dubai, kicking its second season with an array of local catwalk designers and heaps of local talent at the Exhibition hall, our eyes were firmly on Starch Foundation‘s designers, a collective of young Lebanese talented kids who are mentored by one of Lebanon’s fashion legends, Rabih Keyrouz. After having built his career on couture wedding gowns and intricately cut evening wear, he has been mentoring a group of young Lebanese designers to help them kick start their career. Below is our edit of the best pieces shown on the catwalk.
Our hearts stopped during Bashar Assaf’s ethereal show of wispy dresses in glorious patchworks of lace, crepe and silk. We particularly loved the full-skirted lace dress with a red back detail, the short white cocktail dress and a demure golden dress with a button cut detail on the back. but the true showstopper of the night was a long evening dress in layers of red silk.

The next young designer who showed his collection was Hussein Bazaza, with a clearly different feel to the collection and a more minimalistic and geometric direction. The colour palette was a harmonious blend of concrete grey, sky blue and crisp white. We are particularly coveting the mini cocktail dress with the white collar.
Lara Khoury who was part of Starch 2008edition , stunned us with a Swan-like costume made of an intricately constructed concrete grey skirt and a mushroom bandeau top. We just wish we could have seen more variations on this stunning creation, perhaps in the form of a dress or additional skirts in different colours.

There are two ways to wear bodycon dresses: the extremely tight all over bandage dress that doesn’t forgive any hint of cellulite nor carb meals and then there is the very feminine skater shaped skirt that adds some balance to a tighter top.
Azzedine Alaia is the original master of this shape and a true expert in how fabrics are weaved for optimal bodycon style. Years later, most designers are offering a more affordable albeit less intricate version of the skater dress.
We love this dress shape as it still accentuates the waist, hides your tummy, in this case a post-pregnancy one, and is extremely feminine.
Wear it out for a nice dinner or for a family gathering and it is absolutely spot-on.
We think this Ribbed Milly dress works beautifully with Valentino Rockstud shoes and a two-tone clutch from Marni .
Just team with minimal smokey eyes by Urban Decay available at Sephora and lacquered red lips by Rimmel’s Apocalips, and head to a nice restaurant with great music.
