Fashion hits, beauty tips & the art of recycling your wardrobe

2 beach outfits to rock your boat

The first holiday of the summer is always the most anticipated, the one I fantasize about the most and my only excuse for a new capsule beach wardrobe; because let’s face it beach clothes are timeless, almost annoyingly resistant to fashion trends and a pretty good return on investment if we are truly honest with each other.

Despite this reasoning, every destination has its own spirit and fashion aura and one needs to fit in the picture or even melt with the background. For my first holiday of the summer, I plotted for days what to wear in a posh island getaway like Sardinia, Italy … Sardinia what a weird name… my mind went automatically to images of my husband’s BBM status showing a can of tightly-packed sardine fish. Not very fashion-inspiring , so I asked myself: what would Sardinia regular holiday-maker Margherita Missoni wear on her humungous yacht? What would she throw on to wave a big hello to Roman Abramovich who is standing on his terrace admiring the Costa Smeralda?

Of course I couldn’t imagine myself dressed in Missoni from head-to-toe because that would be too millionaire-esque nor actually pretend that I knew any famous film directors or footballers for that matter. I took some simple timeless elements and threw them together: nice colourful prints in shades of mint and pastels, crisp white linen and a wide fedora hat rimmed with black ribbon. Of course my bikinis were inspired by nature: deep turquoise green and a coral print which looked perfect against the invigorating emerald waters of northern Sardinia.
The result was quite accidentally a capsule collection of Diane Von Furstenberg pieces, which I am confident I will wear again on some future island holiday, maybe Ibiza or Bora Bora.

  • One last stroll in Dubai's Citywalk this weekend, admiring the modern architecture... after 6 years in Dubai I am going to terribly miss the spirit of this city... where literally everything is possible and where you can only dream big. If only most people and countries had that same ambition, the world would be a much happier place
