We met up recently with Nadine Sabaiti, one of the co-founders of bohemian online store TheHipster.com and raided the contents of her Hiptainer, during Dubai’s Market OTB pop-up event (OTB stands for Out Of the Box). According to Nadine and Chirine Sabaiti who co-founded The Hipster back in 2011, “The Hipster grew out of a love affair with the independent fashion, open attitude, unexpected pairings, and appreciation for all things ecclectic and unique. A fusion of Bohemian chic, Indie love, and edgy Rock, The Hipster brings you a finely curated assortment of vintage-inspired clothing, accessories, shoes, and even decorative items for your home.” The Hipster.com is your go-to online destination for fast and affordable fashion with a cool bohemian attitude.
What we love about The Hipster.com is the mixture of cool T-shirts, fringed jackets and boho jewelry by brands like House Of Harlow 1960. During our closet raid, Nadine showed us her own personal take on layering of accessories and dressing up the cool way for a night out. As we got to dressing Nadine up, we talked about her fashion experiences and feelings about some of her earliest memories…
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is very diverse; it ranges from boyish casual to super feminine and sexy depending on my mood and outing. I definitely love to mix it up, like pairing high street labels such as House of Harlow Jewelry with emerging labels like Lisa’s Closet and finish off the look with a high end designer like Jimmy Choos Shoes YSL bag. It’s all about creating contrast in my outfit, be it in colours, shapes or mixing simple items with exaggerated pieces. Love prints, colors and bold lipstick.
What do you consider sexy?
Sexy happens when you’re not trying to be sexy but expressing yourself in what you do or wear. I feel the sexiest when the outfit I pick matches who I am.
What is your earliest fashion memory?
My earliest is unfortunately not my finest! I remember Mom dressing my sister and I like twins (even though we’re not) and we started picking different colors in the same outfit to try to stand out.I picked a Green Blazer and Shorts Suit. While Chirine had the yellow! Must have been 7.
Your worst fashion moment?
Funny enough, the Green suit wasn’t! I’d say it was that one time I went to a friend’s wedding at 17 and wore a burgundy Taffeta gown that did not look or fit well. I hate Taffeta fabric, never again!
The oldest piece in your wardrobe?
A vintage boho velvet beaded purse from my Mom, probably from the 70’s. I still wear it out at night till today.
Your most worn piece?
My Hipster beige oxfords.
If you were on a desert island what would you take with you?
Your fashion pet- hate?
High tops Sneakers – so overdone, Gotta go. And Real Fur is a No No – I’m morally against it.
Your favourite shoes?
Any of my pointy toe high heeled pumps, they make the legs look so sexy and work with any outfit. Can’t have enough!
If you were brave enough what would you dare to wear?
A different color wig every day – and maybe a costume.
What trends are you banking on at the moment?
Loving my chokers, always have. They add instant “badass” factor to my outfits.
What is the next purchase that you are drooling over?
Definitely Spring2015 of TheHipster.com Collection! I will have a piece of each 🙂
