New – Generation Pop icons

Remember the 80s and 90s when you weren’t considered cool if you didn’t wear your favourite band’s t-shirt? Some of the rock music artworks actually stayed on to become as iconic as their subjects: who can forget Guns’n’Roses’ pistols, Metallica’s gothic images and my personal old time favourite: The Rolling Stones’ 1970  Sticky Fingers’ album cover, depicting the most famous rock’n’roll lips and tongue, belonging to no other than Mick Jagger? Maroon 5’s tribute song Moves like Jagger is not only befitting but an excellent portrayal of Mick’s impact on pop culture.
Fast forward 42 years later and the new faces that are emblazoned across our chests are no longer those of tripping, high-as-a-kite hardcore rockers but the architects of our daily objects and the stars of our life fantasies: meet Philippe Starck who’s made kitchen utensils appealing and sexy even to people who can’t cook and Anna Wintour, the devil who not only wears Prada, but every covetable designer brand on the planet.
Another style icon we love to champion is Karl Lagerfeld, who still carries the Chanel torch 29 years later and still manages to design for Fendi and his own line; this guy works just as hard as an investment banker but yields much higher returns…
So it was a great discovery to see in London last week, this fine young man wearing a t-shirt by cult label Eleven Paris with Ms. Wintour alongside Karl Lagerfeld giving us the finger!
What’s YOUR coolest pop-icon T-shirt?
